lanked by working families, former New Glarus Family childcare provider Corrine Hendrickson launched her campaign for Wisconsin State Senate Wednesday, September 17th.
Due to a continued loss of funding for rural childcare, Hendrickson was recently forced to close her longtime small business “Corrine’s Little Explorers.”
A newcomer to politics, Hendrickson decided to run for office to try and give voice to the many across southwest Wisconsin who are increasingly struggling to keep up.
“It’s tough out here for lots of folks,” Hendrickson said. “People are working harder just to try and get by and are worried about their families. The cost of everything is making life harder to afford, but it’s important to note even in this challenging moment, there is a better way to do this. If we want things to be different, we have to be willing to try something different, and that’s why I’m running.”
Hendrickson is a nationally renowned advocate for childcare providers and their families.
As the cost of life basics continues to increase, including for childcare, Hendrickson is looking to give working families a greater voice in decisions being made impacting their everyday lives.
“Politics has become a really icky business, but that’s exactly what those in power want us to think because it discourages us regular people from participating,” Hendrickson added. “This campaign is about people, a chance to have conversations about what we are all experiencing and coming up with solutions. In Southwest Wisconsin, we know how to work hard and do whatever it takes to get the job done. We also know that it’s going to take a lot of different perspectives to help us all meet this moment. It’s time to stop drawing lines, have conversations, and get creative to solve the problems impacting our families,” she concluded.
Hendrickson has never run for partisan office previously.
She is running as a Democrat to represent southwest Wisconsin including all of Green, LaFayette, Iowa, Grant, and Crawford Counties, along with a portion of Dane County.
